June is the month that artists and crafters of Rutland open their doors to the public. Pick up a brochure and plan your visits, for a nice day out. Madder Cutch & Co. are displaying our products in Uppingham, North Street Gallery, with some other great artists. http://www.rutlandopenstudios.co.uk
A beautiful walled garden on a very sunny morning last week was the setting for our screen printing workshop. www.visiteaston.co.uk
Drawing from the inspirational gardens, translating these into their own personal motif that was screen printed onto fabric, the ladies and I all had a lovely day.
Thank you for all of your support
Thank you to everyone that came to say hello, pass on positive comments and buy some of our products over the weekend at Ally Pally. It was a very enjoyable 4 days and I loved the open light and airy feel of the new venue.
As we can provide a full making up service for pretty much anything you would like from our fabric range, please don’t hesitate to contact us for a quote. Or if you have any questions about our designs, colours or products, we are always happy to help.
Look forward to hearing from some of you soon......
As production increases for Country Living Spring fair, we have some new ideas for products to promote our unique use of natural dyes on our printed linens.
The leaves of the woad plant (Isatis tinctoria) contain the essential pigment Indigo that is used to produce the blue we all know and love.
Some interesting history and facts about woad
Instructions for dyeing with woad.
Surely we are nearly there?
As the daffodils open their buds in the garden, and the tulips I bought from Holland in October are pushing through the earth, I am busy printing, cutting out and sewing, with my thoughts on the lovely colours of spring.
I am sure everyone has a specific colour that evokes feelings for the long awaited warmth of spring?
At Madder Cutch & Co. ours are Harringworth hay, Collyweston slate and Tickencote pink , all of which have been popular with our customers this February.
However my favourite has to be Harringworth hay, this wonderful rich golden yellow, (which I make from Old Fustic) is named after the nearby village where my friend farms. In early summer the colours of the fields under the viaduct are a similar shade of yellow.
If you would like to find out more about Old Fustic read this blog by Kathleen Keeler.
Not to wish the time away but the summer collection is taking shape with plenty of new colours to explore and some new designs to join the range!
Our Tickencote Pink Achillea No.3, design is featured on the Emporium pages of March's issue. My base dye for this cushion is Cochineal and a lot of care mixing it.
Our unique studio has been featured in 'Modern Gardens' publication. They have kindly let me use a version below. Take a look!
Thanks to all those who came along to meet us at the Handmade at Kew event. Below is some of the press coverage that Madder Cutch and Co. received.
It was a great honour to be interviewed for Stamford Living magazine for their feature piece. Link below!
