Meet Kay – The Talented Hands Behind Madder Cutch & Co.

At Madder Cutch & Co., we believe that a home should feel like a reflection of your heart—comfortable, timeless, and filled with thoughtful details. That’s why we’re so proud to introduce Kay, our incredibly gifted soft furnisher, whose eye for elegance and quiet confidence has transformed countless homes.

Kay is not only a skilled curtain and blind maker but also a passionate upholsterer with a remarkable talent for breathing new life into old furnishings. With a background steeped in creativity and a love for classic design, she brings warmth and sophistication to every room she touches. Whether it's turning a much-loved old chair into a statement piece or crafting bespoke blinds from hand-picked fabrics, Kay’s approach is always personal, meticulous, and timeless. Kay also boasts impressive credentials to back up her creative talent, achieving a diploma in both soft furnishings and interior design as well as having attended lampshade-making courses.

In her own beautiful home—featured in Houseproud Stamford—Kay has transformed a once-dated interior into a serene, stylish retreat full of charm and character. Think soft white tones, natural light, and just the right hint of texture. Her signature touch? Simple elegance, cozy corners, and handmade touches that make a house feel like home.

Kay also runs her own business, creating stunning blinds, cushions, and soft furnishings for clients who want that little bit of handmade magic in their lives.

And as if that wasn’t enough, Kay also makes a mean scone! It’s a treat often shared with family and friends over a cup of tea in her light-filled kitchen—a space where creativity flows freely.

Kay’s Fluffy Homemade Scones

Light, golden, and just sweet enough—Kay’s scones are as comforting as her interiors. Here's her tried-and-true recipe:

Ingredients:

  • 225g self-raising flour

  • 55g butter

  • 25g caster sugar

  • 150 ml milk

  • 1 egg (to glaze)

  • raisins (optional)

Method:

  1. Preheat your oven to 220°C (200°C fan).

  2. Rub the butter into the flour until it resembles breadcrumbs.

  3. Stir in the sugar.

  4. Gradually mix in the milk until a soft dough forms. Mix in the raisins at this stage if you are opting to include them.

  5. Lightly flour your surface and roll the dough to about 2cm thick.

  6. Cut out rounds using a cutter and place them on a baking tray.

  7. Brush the tops with beaten egg for a golden finish.

  8. Bake for 10–12 minutes or until beautifully risen and lightly browned.

Serve warm with clotted cream and your favourite jam for the perfect afternoon treat.
